The brief
Design an app for a restaurant that does not exist, and do the whole job: market research, brand, wireframes, and an interactive prototype. Nothing was handed over at the start, so the client, the menu and the look all had to be invented before any of it could be designed.
The challenge
The main challenge was giving an invented client a design that was realistic in terms of what a real client would actually want to have. On top of that: standing out in a competitive market, appealing to technical users and to people who are not, and designing the whole thing from scratch.
How I got there
Research and discovery meant market research and competitor analysis. Concept development covered multiple logo concepts, colour palette options, typography exploration and testing against the target audience. Refinement and execution started with wireframes, then user testing to find the flaws before the final version was built.
The design
The final design is built on a bold, striking logo with deep maroon reds and creme accents, which gives the whole thing an upbeat feel. Usability came first: button feedback and contrasting colours, smooth animations on anything interactive, and a carousel that is easy to get through. Ordering and booking sit at the top of the home screen, so the two things people actually open the app for are never more than one tap away.
